How to influence in your city district or municipality

Influence in your city district or municipality

There are regional associations in Finnish villages, city districts and municipalities through which to influence one’s own environment. You may want to contact local politicians, too, if you notice a development threatening your area or if you want to improve your environment with, for example, planters, small-scale farming, workshops, or similar activity. The local newspaper and local groups in social media are channels through which you can try influence the development of your neighbourhood.

  • You can contact the municipality to initiate fruit trees planted on a vacant lot, cargo bikes for public use, or becoming a carbon-neutral HINKU municipality.
  • You can try influence the energy company owned by the municipality (e.g. to replace fossil fuels with renewable forms of energy).
  • If you have experience in local influence, share your knowhow to those less experienced.
